Air
Sciences' approach to resolving our clients' air issues
is to first fully understand the facility's processes
and operations. We accomplish this by maintaining a
competent staff of chemical, process, and mechanical
engineers. Some examples of where our combination of
engineering and air consulting expertise have assisted
our clients are as follows:
- Facility design finalization - An examination
of the air regulations is an important step in determining
a project's final design. Small changes to the facility
design may significantly reduce the time it takes
to obtain an air permit and increase the operational
flexibility allowed by the permit. We examine the
engineering/market constraints of each project in
order to provide our clients with the various regulatory
impacts in terms of the design criteria (i.e., equipment
size, fuel types, operating schedule, air emission
controls/monitoring, equipment location within the
property, stack height, etc.).
- Emissions characterization of complex systems
- Characterizing emissions from complex systems requires
a thorough understanding of 1) chemical engineering
techniques (e.g., mass transfer, mass balance, and
reaction kinetic equations) and 2) the regulatory
requirement to be addressed. Our engineers/air consultants
are skilled at both performing the engineering task
and conveying the results in a way that is meaningful
to the regulators and the public.
